Are You Way Out of Shape? Here’s a Good Way to Start On Your Way to Better Health

When you are way out of shape, taking the first step toward better health can seem overwhelming. The finish line seems so far away, it’s discouraging to think about beginning. A wise man once said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”.

But what is that step?

May I suggest walking? If you get into a regular routine of taking a walk every day, or 3 – 4 times a week, you will do a lot for bettering your health. Start off with just 20 minute walks for one week. Each week following, add 5 minutes to your walk, until you are walking 1 hr a day on a regular basis.

Why walking, and not jogging?  Walking is actually better for you in the long run. All you have to do is walk at a pace where your heart beats slightly faster than it does when you are resting (that is, when you are just sitting around doing nothing). You don’t need your heart to pound. You don’t want to exert it that much. The goal is to get your metabolism revved up just a little.

If you make this a habit, not only will your heart grow stronger, but you will also burn up a lot of calories in the process.
